code "1.1" a selection that was produced in an old small nursery in Cile
called "Vivero Moñén" [moˈŋen], which means “life” or “full of life" in
Mapudungun, native language of the Mapuche people. The nursery was located in
the town of Lo Orozco in the Valparaíso Region, around 60 km west from Santiago,
and it was owned by Herman and Cecilia Brockhaus. Now closed following death of
the owner
The species comes from Chile; the majority of wild plants have cherry
red flowers with occasional pale pinks and whites. Introduced
around 1847.
