Clematis x Jouiniana 'Praecox'

Despite the praecox suffix (means early) Clematis x Jouiniana 'Praecox' flowers July to October, its just earlier than other forms of the hybrid! Flowers are very pale lilac in bunches lightly scented. The plant is large and vigorous but non-climbing in habit, if supported it makes a good climber but if allowed also makes good groundcover. Mine looks stunning growing through a Rhododendron. Very tough and hardy it will grow anywhere and can be kept in bounds by hard pruning.

Result of a cross between C. vitalba (the native Old mans beard) and C. heracleifolia (a scented herbaceous species)
