Tibouchina heteromalla (syn grandifolia)
An evergreen shrub with wonderful exotic foliage, the spires of rich purple flowers
appear from early autumn through the winter. For this reason, and
because Tibouchina heteromalla is slightly tender it is best protected under glass
during the winter in UK (min
+1c). It can like other Tibouchina be cut back hard after
flowering. There does seem some confusion as to the correct name, this came from
Madeira where it was labeled up as T. grandifolia but a Californian plantsman
thinks it is heteromala? I can see little difference with online pictures
