Clematis montana varieties:
C. montana is a rampant Himalayan species with small white
scented flowers it was introduced to the UK by Lady Amherst in
1831 The pink form 'Rubens' arrived from China in 1901 (Wilson)
It is variable from seed and many forms have been raised. It will
grow just about anywhere but the developing buds can be frosted (especially
in milder counties)
'Broughton Star'
Deep pink double flowers, good bronze foliage, some scent. a very
attractive plant and not too huge. Raised by Vince Denny in 1988
by crossing montana Picton's var with Marjorie
'Elizabeth'
Strongly scented pink variety, foliage green Raised by Jackmans
in 1958 It has an A.G.M
'Freda'
Small cherry pink flowers make this one of the brightest coloured
Montana's, bronze foliage and scent complete the picture. Not as
rampant as others in the group. A seedling of Pink Perfection
raised by Freda Deacon and introduced by Jim Fisk in 1985 It has
an A.G.M.
'Mayleen'
Large rounded pink flowers have wavy edges and a very sweet scent.
Bronze foliage. Introduced by Jim Fisk 1984 recently awarded an
AGM
var. 'Rubens'
Scented pink flowers in abundance, at its best this is a great
plant but there are some poor forms around you need to see the
parent flowering if you want the real thing!
'Tetra Rose'
Very large deep pink scented flowers, large bronze foliage.
Raised at the Boskoop research station in 1960 it is a tetraploid
hybrid. It has an A.G.M.
'Vera'
Deep pink sweetly scented flowers, bronze foliage. A Cornish
raised plant but its raiser is a mystery (perhaps you know?)
'Warwickshire Rose'
Deep pink flowers, deep purple pink foliage. will become very
popular. Named Warwickshire after the county it was found in and
Rose after the raiser Mr William's mother. 1990's
'Pink Perfection'
Similar to 'Elizabeth, pale pink scented flowers
